Offensive Ads

Pictures and text from the Love Your Body Foundation. They also have a page for Positive Ads. Its interesting, though not as funny :)

Gucci Posted by Hello This ad attempts to demonstrate a woman's "place" in the world—at a man's feet—right below his...uh... Just don't stand up too fast, sister!

Maker's Mark Posted by Hello What is it about selling alcohol that makes advertisers want to belittle and insult women... does it really make men feel more powerful? Don't answer that.

Longchamp Posted by Hello This is an ad for luggage, right? And the nearly naked, bronzed woman is there because...? When creativity fails, insert sex.

Dior Posted by Hello The text reads, "New! Dior Addict Lipstick to Die For...in 30 killer shades... Get hooked. Now." Dior proudly uses the themes of addiction and death to sell lipstick, under the impession that the tactic is edgy and original. Not.

Winston Posted by Hello Winston tries to convince young women how tough and cool they can be by smoking while waiting for a man. Hope he arrives soon ...before lung cancer sets in.

Candies Posted by Hello This is too easy. Is that a space shuttle on your computer, or are you just happy to see me? This ad is so obvious in its "subliminal" message, it's sad.

Calvin Klein Posted by Hello Good ol' Calvin — always leading the way with images of nearly naked, pre-pubescent-looking women and girls.

Ralph Lauren Posted by Hello Not to be outdone, Ralph offers that perfect look to wear while scratching your back on a tree while waiting for, um...the stableboy?

Misty Posted by Hello Brown & Williamson appears to be marketing cigarettes to pre-teen girls with this ad that practically makes smoking look wholesome. Really not.

Comments:
Right on!. As males we probably never realize just how much the general culture of today commoditizes women...

This would almost be funny if wasn't so true. But are those old Diet Coke commercials with the women fawning over the construction guy any better?

Havent seen that commercial. But I think they carried the same messages, just not so starkly as here, I guess.

I really like your blog. So much that I'm tempted to steal from it. Sigh. Keep up the good work. I'll be busy improving my blog...

Thanks, Ubermilf!

Your blog is coming along nicely too :)

wtg, man, wtg! you're doing a fantastic job - just let my exam get over, i'll be giving some input too :)

hey,
Whts upu you guys changed the title page?!!??! *sob* I liked the old, suave look.

Kartik Babu!! OMG! This is a pleasant surprise :D

Dude,
I've been posting comments for a while. Only now did I realize that you can do it sorta non-anonymously. Im too lazy to sign up for a blogger acct.

In passing... here's another thing I've noticed with ad's. None ever cross the race barrier!!!!! next time you see the applebee's ads or the outback steakhouse ads, check out the relative positions of the various dudes of various races checking out the various ladies of various races. Not only are the numbers of white, black, (yeah Im not PC so what?) and hispanic males and females the same, but their relative positions in each scene are the same too. WTF? Wht gives???

Hey Dude! Its great to have you here :D We have a readership in single digits, but atleast we have one :p
