Picture of The Day #16
Maybe what's left for us
is some tree on a hillside
we can look at day after day
and the perverse affection of a habit
that liked us so much it never let go.

"medusa tree"??
interesting notion, katt - you reminded me of some of my favorite quotes:
"trees are the desire of the earth to touch the stars"
-- vincent van gogh
"trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky"
-- kahlil gibran

Greek Mythology:
When someone looked at the Medusa, he turned to stone. So this guy takes a shiny shield and looks at the Medusa's reflection, and then proceeds to behead her. The medusa also had snakes for hair.
So, the thought came to me -- the guy in the picture has become rooted to the ground because he looked at the "Medusa Tree", and metaphorically turned to stone :)

I added that peom from "The Hungry Tide", which I'm currently reading. As soon as I read it, I was reminded of this picture.
